Zach Porter

An incredible human

Back in December of 2018 I joined Mastercontrol. I was brought on to re-align the Digital Experience team and also rebrand and rebuild the corporate website. The team was filled with some incredibly talented folks but they had been through the ringer a little in terms leadership and direction.

I knew no one on the current team before and had a large deliverable of the rebrand of the current web experience 3000+ pages to reconfigure and rebuild all within the new brand guidelines, which was like rebuilding the plane as it was still flying.

During those first few months Zach was a true standout player that still to this day is someone that I admire and look to as a friend and peer that I have deep admiration for.

Zach is not only incredibly talented but, thoughtful, caring, hard working, and a inspiring individual. He is a great designer, a talented illustrator, a great coder and someone who always has a smile on his face. Plus he wears shorts all year round.

While attending an event apart in Denver, Co in January we were walking to get dinner and the temperature was in the single digits and as we were walking a woman noticed him in shorts and probably a t-shirt and called out “Look at this crazy white boy,” which we still chuckle about to this day.

Individual

Zach brought so much to being just himself and knowing his abilities but able to learn and pick things up so quickly.

Inspired Notes

Zach always took such great notes and on the side was always doodling and coming up with this intricate little patterns on his note pads.

Keeping things light

Zach was is always seen with a smile on his face and it was impossible to rattle him.

Trust and Friendship

When you lead teams there’s one main thing that I really try to instill with the group and that’s trust. Trust is a cornerstone to any high functioning team and it allows easier collaboration, increased speed, better moral and motivation and overcome challenges and difficult situations.

A year or so after the rebrand project Zach lost his father in a tragic accident and it was a life event that I hope no one has to go through. As his manager it was one of those times that you deliver as much support as humanly possible. This is when our day to day work takes a backseat and the mental and emotional well-being needs to be first and foremost. Providing whatever care and needs was first on my mind. But within that I had trust in Zach that we would be able to overcome this and I didn’t doubt that his resilience would let him work through the tragedy but come out in a better place

With Zach I have unequivocal trust. He’s someone that you assign a task to and can guarantee that he will get it done and not only deliver incredible results but also that he we will go above and beyond in the ask. He’ll bring new ideas, different thinking and spend the time to create  something that you can see the dedication in.

One last story, we had been using a content platform/ resource center (shall go unnamed but sounds like Dooberclip) that was housing the 1000+ assets (white papers, ebooks, collateral) and it had crashed. A place that was a driver for engagement was completely off the grid. I asked Zach to help me build something to at least get the resources back online. Without hesitation he and I spent the weekend building a new resource center that not only leveraged his amazing coding skills but helped with design and we had it live in a weekend.

Given we both worked 15 hours straight we still got it up and running. It was one of those moments that I’m so thankful to have a person like Zach Porter in my life. Thank you Zach for all of those moments and memories.
